LASYS 2022: Innovative strength in laser material processing

Trade visitors to LASYS welcomed to an in-person trade fair in Stuttgart from 21 to 23 June / High demand for face-to-face communication

The transformation of the automobile industry towards e-mobility is creating huge changes in terms of the way the industry works. Even if many components such as the bodywork and interior remain the same, new markets are opening up for which material processing using lasers represents the only efficient method of series production. For example, lasers are able to cut ultra-thin copper and aluminium films for the batteries, weld the copper coils for the electric motor and electronics together, and cut an exceptionally wide range of materials such as aluminium alloys, plastics and lightweight materials to size. One company that provides solutions involving laser material processing in all of these fields is high-tech company TRUMPF which will be attending LASYS as an exhibitor again this year.

“We are responding to the changes in the industry with innovations regarding the manufacture of high-quality batteries, electric motors and power electronics as well as regarding lightweight construction. Laser material processing is a technology that enables us to offer precise and efficient solutions for almost all manufacturing processes. For example, TRUMPF has developed special lasers with a green wavelength which are ideal for copper welding and which when combined with TRUMPF’s new sensor-based methods raise component manufacturing for the e-mobility sector to a whole new level,” says Thomas Fehn, Chief Sales and Service Officer at TRUMPF Laser Technology. “In an economic region as strong as Stuttgart, LASYS is essential to enable us to get back to face-to-face communication and live machine demonstrations on site after two years of webinars and videoconferences. And the focus on laser material processing in particular makes the trade fair especially attractive for us.”

The LASYS trade fair in Stuttgart has focused on this innovative strength in laser material processing and in doing so established itself in the industry. “If you are committed to initiating projects in the field of laser material processing, attending LASYS in Stuttgart as an exhibitor is exactly the right move. The high quality of the contacts in terms of trade visitors from various industries speaks for itself and justifies the decision to take part in this established application-oriented laser trade fair,” says Dr Sven Breitung, Managing Director of the VDMA Working Group Lasers and Laser Systems for Material Processing.

Key to markets: easy transport access to LASYS
Located at Stuttgart’s trade fair grounds, LASYS is hosted from a strong economic region right at the heart of Europe. As a result of this and its ideal connections to the airport, motorway and local public suburban train and light rail network, LASYS welcomes a trade audience from Europe’s core market. With its keen focus on the DACH region of Germany, Austria and Switzerland, as well as on neighbouring countries such as the Netherlands, France and Italy, this year’s LASYS international trade fair boasts easy transport access. Trade visitors will primarily be attending from the mechanical engineering, plant construction, automobile construction and optical industries.

Planning for the high-level accompanying programme in full swing
Visitors and exhibitors at LASYS will also benefit from the chance to share knowledge at the Stuttgart Laser Days (SLT) which will be bringing together researchers, developers and users in one congress on 21 and 22 June. Together with LASYS, the two events represent an attractive opportunity for all participants to engage in conversation and discuss highlights and innovations. The SLT are organised by the IFSW institute for laser technology at the University of Stuttgart. The IFSW pursues a holistic research approach ranging from laser beam sources to application in manufacturing processes. The SLT have been held in close cooperation with LASYS since 2008. Alongside the SLT, the technical forum “Lasers in Action” runs three days of practice-based lectures live in the exhibition hall.

LASYS returns after a four-year break
This year, LASYS is being held at the Messe Stuttgart grounds in hall 4. Laser systems, services, methods and materials – LASYS showcases the entire range of applications for lasers in material processing. By focusing its content in this way, this industry meeting point has developed continuously over past events. “We are delighted to be back with LASYS after this long break and to build on what we achieved at the last event together with the industry,” says Gunnar Mey, Department Manager of Exhibitions & Events. “At the same time, we are continuing to develop LASYS so we can keep offering a platform for the latest trends and innovations in laser material processing.”
